Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, an American and British sitar artist. She was the first and first female to win the British House of Commons Shield she's had Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian origin to perform live in concert and act as a host at the ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is one of the rising stars of India's sitar. She is a student as well as daughter of the famous Ravi Shankar. Born in 1982, she was raised in London. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent the majority of her youth living between London and Delhi after which she moved to California in the state where she attended high school. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday Anoushka first made an appearance as a sitar player before the crowd of four years following her nine-year-old father. Anoushka was a part of her father on his worldwide tour, gained an impressive quantity of knowledge. When she was in her teens, she performed in Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. She was the youngest and only female recipient of the House of Commons Shield awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her musicianship and talent as an outstanding musician from music in Asian Arts.
